Veterans Day 2012

Picture
"To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations. - President Woodrow Wilson

Mardi Gras Party wrapup notes

Whew, what a party...
Many thanks to all of you that volunteered your time to help make this event an outstanding success. There are too many to list individually, but we must give credit to Tammy Carter, Matt McCannon, Beth Johnson, and the whole crew at the Sugar Grove American Legion, because without you this would just not have been possible.

The food was great, and the Zydeco and Blues music by the Sole City Juke Band rocked and rolled, and soon had everyone dancing. If your looking to book quality entertainment we'd recomend them without any hesitation.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support us and enjoy some authentic Cajun cooking! We’ve already been asked if we will be doing this again, and to us, that’s one of the best reviews we could ask for.

We’ll see, maybe we’ll do a different theme next time.

Thank you from SGVP

On behalf of the entire board of Sugar Grove Veterans Park I'd like to thank everyone who came by to say hello. We had a very good turnout this last weekend and were able to meet some supporters face to face for the first time. There is lots of interest in helping us achieve our goals and without all of you it wouldn't be possible.
We also made some new friends. We had the opportunity to speak with recently returned vets, active duty troops on leave, and families with long histories of veterans.
One particular question should be clarified though. This park, and our celebration bricks are open to all. Military Service bricks do not have to be for a Sugar Grove veteran, and Sponsor Bricks will go toward the many names we have on our rolls that may not have someone to purchase a brick for them.
I personally had some very touching moments hearing loved ones recall the service of their friends and family.

Thank you again,
SGVP

Stop by and see us This weekend at the Sugar Grove Corn Boil!

Donation Update

We're proud to announce that in addition to our brick sales, Johnson Oil, parent company of our  Sugar Grove Express Mart BP is a Sponsor of Veterans Park!
Thank you very much!

We need your orders in before we can start construction.

Celebration Brick sales are in full swing and fundraising continues in earnest. Orders have come from as far away as North Carolina, all with connections to the Sugar Grove area. There have also been many donations have been made as Sponsors. Sponsor Bricks are bricks to be engraved with the names of area Veterans who may not have someone to purchase bricks in their honor. There are over 300 names on plaques between the Legion and the Community House and we expect about half of those names to be covered by sponsors.

We will have a booth at the Corn Boil this year as well to assist in filling out the order forms and to shake hands and ,meet all of you that have stood with us.

Currently we are at 25% of our budget for Phase One and ask if you have planned to, but haven’t purchased a brick yet that you pick up a form at the club. Tammy, Matt, Beth or I can assist you with any questions you have. Remember, the sooner we reach our goal the sooner we can begin construction. Forms can be downloaded at the link below, and we have a verified PayPal account. (donate.sgvp@gmail.com)
You need not have an account of your own, just follow the prompts, and all major credit cards are accepted.

Thank you all for your continued support!
